For the experience of meditation to be endlessly fascinating and infinitely compelling, you have to be interested in nothing. Day in and day out, we are constantly pre-occupied with one thing or another, always busy with ‘something’. But if you want to experience profound meditation, and a depth that liberates, the objective of your attention must be nothing – absolutely nothing whatsoever. If you are attempting to meditate, but are not actually ‘interested’ in nothingness, then of course, you will be bored. That’s just like sitting in a darkened movie theatre, waiting for a film to start. Eventually, you will experience frustration and boredom in meditation in meditation. But imagine that you are sitting in that movie and instead of waiting for that film to begin, you become interested, passionately interested, in the darkness, in the nothingness.

There is ‘something’ in the nothingness that once discovered is infinitely compelling, and absolutely absorbing. The more deeply you are able to penetrate the nature of nothingness, the more the mystery of being and non-being, of life and death and that which transcends both begins to reveal itself. There is more to nothing than meets the eye. Once you truly become interested in the darkness, you wouldn’t want the movie to start. You might actually be disappointed when it started, because it would take you away from your meditation.

Why do you meditate? You meditate to remind yourself that you’re not a prisoner. You are not held captive by your own mind; nor are you imprisoned by your own emotions. It sounds simple, but it’s so easy to forget. If all you are aware of is the endless rollercoaster ride of thoughts and feelings, of course you will believe you are trapped.

The ground of being is a deeper, infinitely more subtle dimension of your own consciousness that simply cannot be perceived by the gross faculties of the conditioned mind and ego. You can’t see it; you can’t taste it; you can’t touch it. So even if you have directly experienced the unconditioned freedom of that empty ground, when you return to the world of conditioned mind and ego, you’re likely to doubt it. The mind simply cannot cognize this ground, and the ego cannot know it. That is why it’s very important to meditate as much as you can. If you meditate regularly with a strong intention, you will keep re-discovering that you’re not a prisoner. You cannot recognise that enough. Until your conviction in your own freedom is unwavering and you’re able to prove it through unbroken consistency in the way that you live, you need to keep having that experience. Each and every time you realise that you’re not a prisoner, it gives you a deeper confidence in the limitless inherent freedom of that empty ground that is your own deepest Self.

One of the most common questions people ask about meditation is, “how do I get rid of thoughts during meditation?”

The short answer is, “you don’t.”

Now, you might think that may sound harsh, but it’s the truth. And it’s complete freedom!

In the past, when I tried meditating, I was told (or somehow led to believe) that meditation was about getting rid of thought. Of course, I failed at meditation. I remember my first meditation being extremely painful because of all the thoughts. After the meditation, I didn’t feel any better because I felt like a complete and utter failure.

Believing that meditation is about getting rid of thought will set anyone up for failure.

I’ll never forget the scene from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy where the crew is walking through the desert and one of the men says, “I was thinking…” and a big shovel comes up and hits him in the face. They continue walking and he says “I thought that…” and the shovel again comes up and smacks him in the face. They make the connection that every time they think a thought, the shovel will come up and hit them in the face. So someone says, “Okay everyone, don’t think,” and the shovel comes up and hits him in the face. Then you see the entire crew running through the desert getting bonked with shovels in their faces.

That’s what happens when you try to get rid of the thoughts! When you tell yourself to stop thinking about what’s for dinner tonight, all you can think about is what’s for dinner! And here’s the cold hard truth, the only time you will EVER get rid of thought is when you’re dead. Even Buddhist monks who have practiced meditation since young ages, have thoughts during meditation. Here’s the key:

Meditation is NOT about getting rid of thought, it’s about becoming the OBSERVER of thought.

You might want to read that sentence again because it’s important!

When I check in with people, in our 21 day meditation circles, and they express that they noticed they had lots of thoughts during the meditation, I tell them to celebrate the fact that they noticed all the thoughts!

Just by noticing the thoughts, they have become the observer of thought. Just the fact that you are aware of the thoughts means you have dis-identified from them.
Most of the time we aren’t even aware of the incessant mind chatter that is going on non-stop, so to even notice the thoughts is a great!

When you notice the thought you have become the witnessing Presence. And this is truly the gift of meditation, to become the observer of thought instead of the “reactor.”

So, what does it mean to be the observer of thought?

Let’s say you’re sitting down to meditate. You have cultivated the practice of meditation in your daily life. But as you are meditating the thought comes into your mind, “I wonder what we’re having for dinner?” You notice the thought, just as you’d notice a cloud floating by and then you’re done with it, you direct your attention back to meditation and feel the aliveness within.

Contrast that to this: You sit down to meditate. As you are meditating the thought comes to mind, “I wonder what we’re having for dinner?” Then you think “I hope we’re not going to have onions. I hate onions.” Then the thought comes to mind, “That reminds me, I’ve got to go to the store tomorrow and get toilet paper.” Then, “When am I going to find time to go to the store tomorrow when I have such a hectic day at the office?” Then you think, “I really don’t like what I’m doing, I wish I could do something else,” then your mind wanders “but how would we make ends meet financially if I were to do something different?” Then you think “I shouldn’t have tried to make my parents proud of me by going to law school, I should have stuck with music which was my real passion.” Then you think, “but the music industry is hard to break into.” Then you think “but Celine Dion did it. If one person can do it, I can do it too.” Then you wonder, “what would I do if I had all that money?” Then that thought leads to, “I’d buy a bigger house with a jacuzzi bath, I’ve always wanted a jacuzzi bath and a three car garage and music studio.” Then you think, “what am I thinking? There’s no way I can do anything about my situation, I’m trapped!” Then you wonder, “what’s the purpose of life any way? There’s got to be more than this daily grind!” All this from the original thought “I wonder what we’re having for dinner?” Exhausting!

Becoming the observer of thought means you notice the thought you just don’t follow it out. You don’t have to become wrapped up in it! You don’t get sucked in to the drama! You’re not attached to the thought.

I remember once, after starting a regular meditation practice, that I was working on some project and for a moment I had those self-limiting thoughts we all have, I thought “I can’t do this project.” And it was like it wasn’t even me saying it. I noticed the thought and smiled like, “hmmmm, that was interesting.” Then I was done with it!

The most important thing I could tell any beginning meditator is to not try and get rid of the thoughts. Observe them, notice them, and then go back to whatever “technique” you were working with for your meditation. Continue to do this, as it’s a practice, especially when first starting meditation. In this way, you are slowly becoming the observer of thought instead of the reactor and this is a powerful “place” to be!

To learn meditation is not difficult.

You sit in a quiet place for 10 – 40 minutes and focus on your breathing, a sound, a chant or mantra. Whether you use a mantra or chant or not is entirely up to you and what you’re comfortable with.

What is a mantra?
The Sanskrit word mantra comes from the root “man” – which means “to think” (or, in manas “mind”) and the suffix “tra” – which means “tool.” Literally, a “mantra” means an “instrument of thought”.

When you repeat a sound, such as OM (rhymes with home) or Ara Kara (AH-ruh KAH-ruh) there is a vibration you’ll feel from the sound if you say it out loud. Mantras are effective whether you say them out loud (soft verbal chanting) or whether you repeat them mentally, silently in your mind. That’s the simple part.

When You Learn Meditation, Quieting the Mind is More Difficult Than Quieting the Body

If you’ve tried meditating, you know what often happens. You turn off the phone. Dim the lights. Perhaps you light a scented candle or incense if you find scent to be calming. For the first few minutes, all goes well. Then the mind chatter starts. And your foot goes numb. And your arm gets itchy. So now you’re squirming and wondering how long it’s been. Ooops. You start the chant again. Quieting your body is easy. Quieting the mind is not quite as easy. That’s the hard part of trying to learn meditation.

Tips For Learning Meditation

There are so many benefits to learning meditation that it’s worth your while to persist. These tips will help you learn meditation successfully;

Don’t meditate on a full stomach. Wait an hour or two after eating before meditating. Don’t meditate with candy or food in your mouth. Choose an uncluttered area for meditation. Surroundings affect state of mind. Turn off the phone and eliminate any potential distractions Dim the lights if possible. If you find scent to be relaxing, light a scented candle or incense. Learn meditation gradually. Start with 10-15 minutes and work up over time. Meditation Music & Brain Entrainment

Many people find that <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://MindMusicAndMeditation.com“>meditation music</a> helps clear the mind. Gentle tracks without lyrics, such as nature sounds or music specifically for meditation can help you train your brain to relax.

In addition to relaxation meditation, there are audio tracks that will help you entrain your mind to achieve different responses from deep relaxation to improved concentration, and intense focus. It’s as simple as putting on an audio track and just listening. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

In our fast-paced and interconnected world tension is on the rise. Now, for people who are new to mediation and other related areas, have to put more effort and time for relaxing their body and taking their mind to no thought state. Modern science has chalked out a solution for them and that is BINAURAL BEATS.

History of binaural beats: Binaural bests were first discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. However, Dove didn’t realise the full potential of this technology, he merely observed that it occurred. It was another 134 years before Gerald Oster penned an article called “Auditory Beats in the Brain” which was published in Scientific American in 1973.

What is it :It was proposed that a binaural beat occurs in the brain if you apply slightly different frequency sine waves independently but simultaneously to each ear. This beat affect is created by the brain itself and is largely due to the structure of the brain’s internal wiring.

These binaural beats are auditory brainstem responses, originating in the superior olivary nucleus of each hemisphere of the brain due to the interaction of the two different impulses.

The frequency of the two tones is between one and 30 Hz. Lets take the example that the difference between the two tones is 10 Hz. This 10 Hz difference is experienced within the superior olivary nuclei as a beat . The brain has a tendency, through the frequency following response, to resonate at the same frequency as the auditory stimuli being presented. In our example this would be 10 Hz, which is that frequency of the Alpha state. If we offer a binaural frequency of 5 Hz, the brain will begin to resonate with that and produce Theta brainwaves. If we present a binaural beat of 3 Hz, Delta brainwaves are detected. Alpha, Theta and Delta brainwaves are connected to altered states of consciousness that can be used to reprogram the subconscious mind, eliminate negative thought schemas and release emotional connection to memories.

In layman’s terms all this means is that you can relax, put on some stereo headphones and let your mind synchronize with the binaural beat frequency to create real measurable changes in your mind and body.

Benefits: There are immediate benefits of using these beats such as the creation of relaxed states, aided sleep or even energy boosts. However, this is not the limit of binaural beat technology. It is also possible to produce very unusual states of consciousness like lucid dreaming, creativity, out-of-body experiences, and transcendental meditation, to name but a few. However, there are also very real permanent benefits from using binaural beat technology. This technology has been used to create some very dramatic life changes.

Dangers: Thousands of individuals use Binaural Beats every day with no adverse reactions. After all they are non addictive and certainly not abusive in any way. There is a small number of people that should never use these Beats. This should be read very carefully and if you have any doubts you should then seek the opinion of a medical practitioner before using them.

People who suffer from any type of seizure should never attempt to use any type of Brainwave Entrainment technology. These work by emitting a constant pulse of sound, which causes electrical impulses in the brain, changing brainwaves. These may bring on seizures in people prone to this complaint.

It is not advisable to use this therapy on children due to them being more prone to seizures. Even children that have never had seizures before can sometimes be affected by the like of certain television programmes or computer games.

The ancient practice of meditation prevalent in many spiritual traditions is still relevant in the modern age because of its inherent nature of promoting deep mental and physical relaxation amongst its practitioners. This is evident from the wide spectrum of physical and mental benefits that practitioners experienced as they learn to meditate regularly. Its wonderful physical benefits include relief from insomnia, reduced blood pressure, improved posture, increased energy, greater pain management and better control over libido.

Though the benefits may vary between individuals, in most cases, meditation allows the body to function more effectively. In addition, its amazing effects on the mental aspect include enhanced tranquility, patience, concentration and memory.

Given that meditation may bring about the effects as mentioned above, it gives us the motivation to practice meditation so as to improve our overall well-being in life. But, one question lies ahead,” Which is the most ideal form of meditation to practice regularly? ” The answer lies within oneself because every individual has his own preference in meditation techniques. Thus, it is best to explore different types of meditation techniques before adhering to one for the long term.

However, before one embarks on the path of meditation, it is crucial to understand the right mental approach towards it. Often, beginners who learn to meditate have a common error of a definite goal that they strive for blindly. For instance, they might practise meditation to combat stress or to experience happiness. But having such aims hinder their progress paradoxically. This is because when we have fixed notions about it, it obscures us from the true experience of meditation.

Therefore, the ideal approach towards it is to embrace it with an open-minded attitude without expectations. This implies that we should still have faith in the benefits of meditation but should not have concrete notions about how it will manifest and what exactly it feels like. The Zen master Dogen describes meditation succinctly as “just sitting”. This means that one should engage in total absorption in meditation without intention or expectation. With this in mind, learn to meditate and have fun!

–Mark Twain

The moment of truth, the sudden emergence of an insight, is an act of intuition. Such intuitions give the appearance of miraculous flashes, or short-circuits of reasoning.

–Arthur Koestler

Many people look into learning to meditate so they can enjoy more peace. Others hope for greater clarity of thinking. Still others are hoping for spiritual gains.

Having been active in meditating for 13 years, I think it’s fair to say that meditation will take you to unexpected results. If you are ready for that kind of exploration, you should learn to meditate. If not, perhaps you should just stay as you are.

Here’s my experience:

At the start of 1995, I began studying and practicing Transcendental Meditation. Pleased with the results I felt in terms of increased calmness and mental clarity, I encouraged my wife to do the same. She, too, was pleased with her experience.

We decided we wanted to go even deeper into this discipline and devoted much of our spare time over the spring and summer to taking an advanced program to learn, among other things, levitation. I had visions of floating around in the air 30 feet off the ground; it was exciting to contemplate.

The reality was quite different from my daydreams. We actually learned to hop in the lotus position. A typical hop was a few inches off the ground. Fortunately, all this hopping provided other mental benefits.

Our instructors kept emphasizing that this discipline was independent of our religious beliefs. I began to realize why they repeated this point so often: With more meditation, my thoughts were increasingly focused on spiritual matters. My prayer life was enriched as well as my Bible study.

At the end of this training, I immediately flew off (by plane) for salmon fishing in Labrador with one of my CEO clients. I spent many hours pleasantly casting my line in the virtual solitude of the wilderness on a sparkling river. I didn’t care if I caught any fish. The experience was like a week-long meditation.

When I returned from the fishing trip, I kept waking up at about 3 a.m. and wasn’t able to get back to sleep. I could feel an idea trying to come to life inside me, but I couldn’t identify it. After a few such nights, I began to spend these sleepless hours in prayer.

Weeks passed, and I was getting pretty foggy and tired even though meditation is supposed to help with concentration and alertness. I wondered if I had somehow overdone the meditation.

Then, one morning at around 3:45 a.m., I felt a warm presence fill the room. In response, my body temperature seemed to rise and I felt deliriously happy.

A voice that I didn’t recognize filled my mind and told me in tones that were more resonant and powerful than James Earl Jones on his best day that I should hold a meeting for all of my clients to celebrate and share their greatest accomplishments on the autumnal equinox. At the end of the meeting, I should announce that I would be starting a 20 year project to find ways for the whole world to make 400 years of normal progress in only 20 years, beginning in 2015 and finishing in 2035. For the next few weeks, I could think of little else.

What had happened? I prayed over the experience quite a bit and concluded that God had sent me a message. Why me? I have no idea. Maybe He couldn’t find anyone else crazy enough to take on such an impossible task. I certainly felt that only God would know how to do it.

Why that timeframe? I don’t know, but it later occurred to me as I wrote this book that the 2000th anniversary of Jesus’ resurrection would occur during 2015-2035. Perhaps that was an important connection. But who knows except God?

How would I pursue this project? I had no idea, not even a clue. All I knew was that I was supposed to make this announcement at the autumnal equinox . . . and I did. The rest of just amazing history.

I suspect that you, too, should expect the unexpected from mediating. I hope my experience will inspire and encourage you to explore new territory through this inner-directed experience.

Learning to meditate is much easier than most people would suppose due to the myths that have sprung up around this long practised method of relaxation. Many imagine that it is difficult and can only be undertaken after years of intensive training and long hours of discomfort.

This is most certainly not the case and anyone can meditate if they simply have the desire to do so. The first thing to do is to create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and this begins by turning off the radio, the television, your cell phone and any other distractions. Ensure that you will not be disturbed for the duration.

The key to meditation is relaxation, so remove any tight clothing and ensure that you are comfortably dressed. Do not try to meditate in an area that is too warm or too cold for you to be at your ease. Light several candles or use fragrant oils to perfume the air. Also ensure that you have eaten and have had something to drink before you begin.

Make yourself comfortable by relaxing in a position that will put you at your ease. You do not have to adopt the lotus position to be able to meditate. Reclining on a couch or being seated in a chair is perfectly fine so long as you can feel utterly relaxed.

This is an important aspect of the process to ensure that you can direct your focus without having any physical distractions. Relax, gently close your eyes and start to concentrate on your breathing. Try to create a circular pattern to your breath, visualizing that the inhale is one half of the circle, the exhale the other half.

As you slow your breathing, deepening the action, clear your mind of any immediate worries or concerns. If any thoughts come up, acknowledge them and let them go. Focus again on your breathing and then see if you can recognize any tension or pain anywhere in your body. If you do, see the breathe as releasing it on the exhalation, drawing in healing breath on the inhalation.

You are, in fact, now meditating, but at first this will take a while to master, to keep the stillness of the mind and to keep your focus on something as simple as your breathing. Do not be frustrated at the thoughts that come up, just keep clearing them away. Perseverance will pay off and over time you will increase the time you can spend in this manner.

if you think meditate is easy, you are correct. Meditation is simple all right however the question is, “Is it easy?”
Remember that life includes things that are fairly simple yet difficult to try and do. Meditation is one of them.

ok this is step by step learn to meditate for everyone, don’t worry it’s easy

first step is please unplugged the phone, turned off the television and also the lights.

next, may ligthing a candle and good incense would helpful. But wait, how did you sit? Did you force yourself as a lotus stance? the “lotus” usually cross-legged
position where you two soles are resting on your own thighs.

were you in a position to sit still or did you are feeling your legs hurting and lower back aching? In that case, it really is doubtful should you be able to relax dan quiet your
mind. Most likely you started to recall a lot of things that you did or must do, with saveral thought running amonk in your mind. it is also not surprising
when you decided to give up and instead, sleep through what might have been your meditation.

Once you find a comfortable sitting position for you, you can use spoken or silent mantra, or listen to soothing meditation music or sound, or focus on a candle, burning incense or other small objects, or just simply breath. Breathing should be natural and through the nose. Head is tilted slightly downward and the body is completely relaxed. Recognize thoughts without judgment and bring back concentration to the original object of focus.

Remember that these learn to meditate methods have no goals, there is no bad or good meditation, there is simply guided meditate

Brainwave entrainment is the easiest and fastest way to achieve meditation benefits while you learn to meditate.

Naturally, the question is: what is brainwave entrainment and how does it help me achieve a meditation mind? The answer lies in the use of monaural, binaural and isochronic beats.

Monaural beats are a single pulse at a single frequency which is repeated beneath other soothing sounds. Binaural beats are a repetitive beat which is phased at different frequencies to each ear. The brain compensates for the difference by creating a third tone. This captures the conscious mind and it gradually begins to attune to the pulse of the tones.

Isochronic tones on the other hand, are created by an evenly spaced pulsing of tones at a far higher frequency (although variable depending on the purpose of the meditation) which rapidly synchronizes the brain patterns with them. Pound for pound, isochronic tones are far more powerful than either monaural or binaural beats, especially when it comes to guided meditations.

What this means is that using isochronic tones allows the mind to rapidly achieve a very relaxed state and immediately begin to receive meditation benefits. Another advantage of using brainwave entrainment, is that no effort is required on the part of the meditator. In fact, the more passive you are, the better. You just listen to the soothing sounds of water, wind, rain and music with the pulse in the background, while your mind effortlessly achieves deep meditation. When the mp3 finishes, you are pleasantly surprised because your conscious mind has been elsewhere, allowing the creativity of the sub-conscious mind to surface.

By varying the speed and the content of the isochronic tones, it is possible to accurately target the areas of your life that you wish to improve. Whether it be for stress relief, lowering blood pressure, (yes, that is just one of the meditation benefits), reducing cholesterol, achieving lucid dreaming or even awakening your esp. Using a meditation download of targeted isochronic tones will assist them all.

I use these mp3 meditation downloads because I have found that they really do change my mind.

Binaural bests were first discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. However, Dove didn’t realise the full potential of this technology, he merely observed that it occurred. It was another 134 years before Gerald Oster penned an article called “Auditory Beats in the Brain” which was published in Scientific American in 1973.

It was proposed that a binaural beat occurs in the brain if you apply slightly different frequency sine waves independently but simultaneously to each ear.

There are immediate benefits of using these beats such as the creation of relaxed states, aided sleep or even energy boosts.

The Monroe Institute have over forty years experience changing effects on states of consciousness with the use of binaural beats in their audio sound patterns, called Hemi-Sync. Centerpointe have conducted a lot of research into the use of binaural beats also. They created a program called Holosync which concentrates more on self improvement and achieving a higher level of conscious interaction, by creating desirable emotional, physical and environmental changes through a reduction in your anxiety threshold. They use their technology to reprogram your brain, remove old emotional thinking and negative emotional connection to long buried memories. You can even create your own affirmations later in their course to reprogram your beliefs.

These technologies can be expensive but the overall benefits of there use are immeasurable. However, there are cheap alternatives to both the above mentioned. Binaural beats in audio technology now come in affordable one CD sets. These can be used to instantly create a variety of different states such as sleep, meditation, creativity, lucid dreaming etc. You can also get your hands on software to create your own binaural beats but I believe, when dealing with brain entrainment, this should be left to those with more experience. The technology is fascinating and it works but you really won’t know that until you try it yourself.
